module 10

1. I selected 'Buddhism' and 'Hinduism' because they are similar and I wanted to learn more about the culture of art that they uphold. 2. In 'Buddhism' I learned how their forms of art have expanded and spread to other lands. I also learned that there is a building in the shape of a lotus because that is the flower of Buddhism. IN 'Hinduism' I learned the practices of Hinduism through art and India's many carved stone sculptures. They also practice ceremonies of death by placing the body in a 'casket' and sending it into the Ganges River. 3. These videos relate to readings in the text because they go through the forms of art and the different practices that religions go through and how that effects their ways of working. 4. These films taught me a lot about the religion and the ways of their cultures. The videos add depth to the understanding of the readings and art concepts because they give the proper information to better understand ...

module 9- exploring line

Image
1. I think that it was easy to use my hands as the subject of my drawing because I am familiar with them. 2. I chose to use pencil because I like the way it shades. 3. It was very hard to draw with my non dominant hand and I could barely draw a line. I couldn't even hold the pencil the right way in my left hand. 4. I think the drawing of my left hand is successful because I could properly draw and shade the right way but the drawing of my right hand is horrible and definitely is clear on the fact that I drew it with my non dominant hand. 5. I will never create artwork with my non dominant hand in the future because it was very stressful and difficult.

Module 9

1.  I have chosen the videos, 'Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance' and 'The Drawings of Michelangelo'. I chose these because these are two very influential and talented artists that I wanted to learn more about. 2. In the Leonardo da Vinci video I have learned what his first couple paintings were and how he used a lot of symbolism within his artwork. I also learned how your mind will allow you to draw artwork based on your emotions at that moment. In the Drawings of Michelangelo video I learned about his use of elements and the way he thought through his artwork. I also have learned that he learned to sculpt all by himself. 3. The videos relate to the readings in the text because they both go through the artists and teachings of specific uses of media to form their art. 4. These videos add depth to the art concepts and readings because they give us a visual on what is being heard or read. I enjoy these videos because I like viewing things in order to l...

Module 8

1. I selected the video 'The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure' because it is the one that sounded like it would most interest me. I figured it would be about the sculptures and the way they formed a human figure, which it was. I also wanted to learn why they chose the shapes of the bodies that they did. 2. From the video I chose, I learned that the Greek would put lines on a woman's stomach on the statue to signify that she had already given birth. On the video that was mandatory, I realized that the "perfect" human figure was being made up from thousands of years ago. Each society is striving to figure out what the best body shape is and what is so realistic. 3. The videos relate to the readings in the text because they each talk about the human figures within the Ancient Mediterranean Worlds. It also goes through the ways that different worlds created the human figure in their sculptures. 4. The videos were very detailed and were easy ...

module 7

1. I chose the videos 'Architecture: Science of Design' and the 'Last Call for Planet Earth: Sustainable Development and Architecture'. The key concepts in the first video mentioned it that I learned that wind effects skyscrapers while I thought this was always a myth. I found out that buildings over 100 stories tall can sway back and forth up to one meter. In the second video mentioned, I learned that buildings have an involvement with the environment more than I would have ever thought. This is shown by the idea that buildings are sometimes designed a certain way just to get more sunlight, or are designed more narrow to reduce cross ventilation. 2.These videos relate to the text because they all discuss the structural systems in architecture. They then both go through the different forms of architecture such as concrete, cable-stayed, steel frame and balloon framed. Also, the text gives information on Frank Lloyd Wright and I see there is a video about him as well. ...

peer blog review

1. Blogs that I reviewed: http://dkmurph.blogspot.com https://fundamentalsofartinquirydavidhahn.blogspot.com 2. From both artists, I agreed with their use of elements and principles and the images that they used for each one. There were many photos in both of the artists images that ad more than one elements such as there would be line and color in many of their photos. 3. There were no images that were the same as mine in either of the artists art gallery pictures. 4. I think it is valuable to see what my peers are doing for their projects. I find that it is informational and it helps me learn new things and see new material and images. 5. I think the comments on my blog are helpful. My peers are all very nice and give great positive feedback!

Video Review

1. Some key concepts that I found in these two videos are: - Sculptors rarely are asked to do a whole sculpture, they usually just do parts of it such as the face, hands, or feet. - Clay has to harden before you put more layers on it to add more detail. - A perfect cement block has to have full sound when hitting the block. If it sounds funny, there are cracks and you cannot use it for a sculpture. - Stained glass is made by using the lead technique. - Ceramics are heated in a kiln and then after that, they are glazed. 2. The videos relate to the text because they both speak about modeling for sculptures and how to properly assemble sculptures. Both the text and the videos also explain that the glass's principal ingredient is silica. 3. These videos are very informational to me and I enjoy watching them. These videos add depth to the understanding of topics such as sculpture, installation and craft because they thoroughly explain each detail that goes into creating these ...
