module 7
1. I chose the videos 'Architecture: Science of Design' and the 'Last Call for Planet Earth: Sustainable Development and Architecture'. The key concepts in the first video mentioned it that I learned that wind effects skyscrapers while I thought this was always a myth. I found out that buildings over 100 stories tall can sway back and forth up to one meter. In the second video mentioned, I learned that buildings have an involvement with the environment more than I would have ever thought. This is shown by the idea that buildings are sometimes designed a certain way just to get more sunlight, or are designed more narrow to reduce cross ventilation.
2.These videos relate to the text because they all discuss the structural systems in architecture. They then both go through the different forms of architecture such as concrete, cable-stayed, steel frame and balloon framed. Also, the text gives information on Frank Lloyd Wright and I see there is a video about him as well. The text and the videos discuss new technologies that have advanced throughout time as well.
3. My opinion on these videos are the same as any other video we have watched. They are both very informational and interesting to watch. I thought it was very cool how much of a role the environment around us interferes with architecture. These videos add to the understanding of architecture because they are very detailed and they are thorough in the ideas being presented to teach the viewer all that goes into creating a building.
4. I chose these films because I saw that the first video I chose was about the science of architecture and I knew it would be interesting to hear how much strategizing goes into the process of a building. I chose the second video because I saw that it was about nature. I didn't know what the video would even talk about because I didn't realize there were so many environmental factors that went into buildings. I definitely was surprised!
